Meet Kenya

"Empowering Communities, Serving with Passion. A Veteran Committed to Change!”

Ms. Kenya Wicks exudes the passion for serving others that has been evident since childhood. Growing up with her grandmother in Louisville, Kentucky, she saw firsthand the plight of many seniors in her community who were marginalized either due to their economic status or their disability. Her compassionate nature and the steady guiding hands of her grandmother helped Kenya shape her advocacy for senior rights which include access to affordable healthcare, Medicare, and mental health. Even as a youngster, Kenya saw value in the countless hours spent volunteering and caring for the needs of the elderly, and she is truly indebted with gratitude to her grandmother.

Dedicated to excel Kenya rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class, but quickly set her sights on becoming a commissioned officer. She was commissioned through Officer Candidate School (OCS) in 2008 and received her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Alabama in 2010 “Roll Tide”. Throughout her 30 years of illustrious service in the Army, and retiring as a Major, Kenya demonstrated unparalleled leadership, competence, loyalty, dedication, and self-sacrifice. These values helped shape the exceptional leader she is today.

Kenya is a mother of three sons and a golden doodle affectionately named Major. In addition, Kenya is currently a member of the Fayette Democratic Women Organization and serves as Vice Chair for the Fayette County Democratic Committee.  She promotes the interests of foster care children as a Court-appointed special advocate (CASA), Vice President of the Kentucky Colonels, serving as Secretary for her HOA, and is an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, the Fayette Chapter of the NAACP, American Legion Post #202, Veterans Foreign Wars (VFW) CSM A.
